With new feature films and world premieres, join in the joy of film at the 79th edition of the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Since its founding in 1947, Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has become recognised globally for discovering and showing the very best in international cinema and exploring new ideas in cinema practices. Each year it offers film fans a dynamic programme of features, documentaries, shorts and experimental cinema. Featuring 38 new feature film presentations and 21 feature film world premieres, this year’s programme welcome film legends for conversation events, celebrates an iconic Scottish masterpiece, and brings a range of classics to the big screen. EIFF 2026 opens with the International premiere of Edinburgh-born filmmaker Louis Paxton’s debut feature The Incomer, and closes with Louise Lockwood’s powerful debut documentary feature Bel. Film-goers will also be able to see a special 30th anniversary celebration of Trainspotting at Leith Theatre with a live cast and crew commentary. Venue partners include Cameo Picturehouse, Filmhouse, Cineworld, Central Hall, Monkey Barrel Comedy and Leith Theatre. Enhanced access screenings, including audio description, subtitled, British sign language interpreted, and relaxed screenings will be available. An access booking service is also available.
