Interested in comedy writing? You're in the right place! Our primary focus is on sketch but this group is open to writers of any comedic material, including but not limited to:

Films

Short Stories

Bring whatever you've got and, depending on the size of the group, you'll have around 5-10 minutes to do a table read and gather feedback from experienced comedy writers and performers.

After the table read section is over, we'll delve into some comedy theory topics, idea generation and writing exercises so you can leave the session with something to work on for the next meet up. If you need it, we can also help you get your laptop or writing device set up with free applications that will help streamline you writing process and make it a joy to write properly formatted scripts (NO MORE CLUNKY FINAL DRAFT!).

Our finish time is loose so if you have a finished script and have sourced props/costumes, we may be able to assist you in filming basic social media portrait style sketches* in the style of Andrew Rousso/Stanzi Potenza (anything more cinematic is probably out of scope for these sessions). Similarly we may be able to help you record audio tracks for a podcast sketch.

Long term, the aim of these sessions is to form the foundation of our house sketch writing team, who will write and produce an entire new sketch show (Fresh Catch) on stage every single month. Don't worry if you just want to write and not perform - we have plenty of improvisers for that!

*Note: If you wish to record then we request that you let us know well in advance so we can check availability with the venue and any affected partners. You also accept that you are personally responsible for sourcing your actors/voice actors and any contracts regarding whether they are to be paid or are working for free. The Improv Chippy will not be held responsible for any disputes arising from this if you have not done your due diligence.
