Discover the Guzheng - Journey into Chinese Music

Join us at Westminster Music Library for a free guzheng workshop for children aged 6-12. This exciting free workshop will introduce children to the guzheng, a Chinese string instrument. This workshop is offered in partnership with Zen Water Guzheng School.

This workshop is for children aged 6-12 only. Further workshops for all ages will follow in September.

Workshop participants will:

Discover the sound, structure and cultural background of the guzheng

Learn the basic playing posture and introductory plucking techniques;

Wear guzheng finger picks and experience how the fingers apply and control force to produce a clear sound;

Practise simple musical patterns and try playing familiar melodies such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb and the Chinese melody Cang Hai Yi Sheng Xiao《沧海一声笑》;

Experience making music together in a friendly and accessible group setting

No previous musical experience is required.
