About This Event

Gem of the Ocean is an adaptation of August Wilson’s play Gem of the Ocean, directed by Nadia Fall (Entertaining Mr Sloane). It is set to be performed on June 17th at Young Vic with a community category performance.

From Young Vic Artistic Director and CEO Nadia Fall (Entertaining Mr Sloane) comes the first UK staging in 20 years of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, a riveting instalment in a decade-by-decade, ten-play chronicle of the African-American experience in the twentieth century. Set in Pittsburgh in 1903, it’s a powerful look at the rich history and spirituality of the African-American people, and a searing exploration of resistance, redemption, and the enduring search for freedom.
