About This Event

Young Vic is staging a performance of August Wilson's play, Gem of the Ocean. This marks the first UK presentation of the work in twenty years. The production is presented by the Gem of the Ocean Cast.

From Young Vic Artistic Director and CEO Nadia Fall (Entertaining Mr Sloane) comes the first UK staging in 20 years of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, a riveting instalment in a decade-by-decade, ten-play chronicle of the African-American experience in the twentieth century. Set in Pittsburgh in 1903, it’s a powerful look at the rich history and spirituality of the African-American people, and a searing exploration of resistance, redemption, and the enduring search for freedom.
