About The Ghost of White Hart Lane

At 6 Walker's Court, London, The Ghost of White Hart Lane tells the story of Spurs and Scotland star John White, one of the best footballers of the 1960s. The play follows his journey from humble beginnings just outside Edinburgh to football fame, and then to his death in July 1964, when he was struck by lightning aged 27.

Commissioned in 2024 to mark 60 years since John White’s death, it premiered at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in July 2024, becoming the first live play ever performed there. It later had a one month run with sell-out shows at Underbelly Edinburgh Fringe in 2024 and Jackson's Lane, Highgate in 2025.

Based on the Sunday Times Bestseller by Rob White and Julie Welch, the play also follows Rob White, who was five months old when his father died. It combines John White’s cheeky humour with a personal look at grief, growing up without a father and male mental health.
