About This Event

The Royal Swan Upping will take place on Monday 13 July 2026, as the historic procession travels along the River Thames through the Windsor area. This ancient ceremony, which dates back to the twelfth century, serves as an annual census of the mute swan population. The King’s Swan Marker, accompanied by Swan Uppers from the Vintners’ and Dyers’ Livery Companies, rows in traditional Thames skiffs to catch, ring, and release the birds. The event showcases both historic rivercraft and vital conservation work, with the teams navigating stretches of the river from Middlesex into Oxfordshire.
