Join musician Jon Davies (Kepla) and theatre duo Emergency Chorus (Ben Kulchivit and Clara Potter-Sweet) for a workshop/performance event exploring the idea of “performing-listening,” open to all. While in residence at Full of Noises, Jon, Ben and Clara will test and develop methods of navigating collective performance, from score writing for sound and body movement, to improvising with objects and stages, spaces and each other.

The work in progress brings the artists and audience together to explore the dynamics of collective performance. How can we move between listening and sounding, watching and moving? How can we negotiate the relations between everyone in the performance, whether artist or audience, stranger or familiar?Expect prompts, multiple stages, things to interact with, choreographed moving and sounding. Everything is optional.

After the performance there will be a short break followed by a conversation to reflect over refreshments.

Jon Davies is a musician, improviser, collaborator and sound artist, producing solo work as Kepla since 2014. His music reflects on specific experiences in time, approaching field recordings and improvisation as sonic artefacts to tell a story. Patterns emerge but seldom repeat, time slips and harmonies become obscure. His two solo albums Within The Gaze, A Shadhavar and In Furnace move between pure digital synthesis and studies of instruments occupying acoustic space. He has a forthcoming compilation called Outside Time, documenting a 10 year span of electroacoustic productions. Jon is currently supported by Arts Council England’s Develop Your Creative Practice fund.

Emergency Chorus is the collaboration between artists Ben Kulvichit and Clara Potter-Sweet. Since 2016, they have been working across theatre, live art and dance, creating performances which collide disparate source materials to form collages of text, choreography, music and image. Their work deals with states of crisis and emergency, the relationships between ecology, capitalism and technology, and ways of approaching and the future, doing so with complexity, strangeness, playfulness, intimacy and ambiguity. Previous works include Ways of Knowing, Town Criers, and Landscape (1989), and have been presented across the UK at venues such as Battersea Arts Centre, Cambridge Junction, Fierce Festival and Bristol Old Vic.
