About This Event

An artist talk featuring Harun Morrison will be held at The Wolfson Lecture Theatre, The Seamus Heaney Centre at Queens University in Belfast on 9 November 2026 at 10:00. The talk will focus on civic aspects of art and design processes.

Artist Talk with Harun Morrison

Join the Laboratory for Civic Arts Research (LCAR) for a talk by artist and writer Harun Morrison, Unfinishedness and Open Endings.

Harun will share a series of case studies from his practice that explore the civic aspects of his work. These include a proto-board game as a means of exploring water politics, the co-design of community gardens in Liverpool and London and an invitation from Richmond Council’s planning department, in collaboration with artist Kim Coleman, to develop artistic-research informing municipal lighting policy and the politics of darkness in urban space with multi-species needs in mind. Harun will emphasise and argue for the value of unfinished spaces and systems as integral to design processes for civic space.

This presentation will be followed by group discussion.

About LCAR

LCAR is an AHRC IAA-funded programme to nurture alternative modes of civic impact through creative practices and artist public spaces. For this edition it is an engagement and impact partnership across Ulster University, Queens University Belfast, and University of Glasgow. It supports facilitators and researchers who want to support and grow meaningful engagement with the public through creativity and the arts.

LCAR is interested in possible translations and interactions with society through art tools and methodologies. The principal objective of LCRA is to enhance the civic impact of academic research through bespoke modes of dissemination and circulation, drawing from practices in the arts.

The programme was first devised and led by Dr Viviana Checchia with Casi Dylan, Professor Dominic Paterson, and Dr Kevin Leomo (University of Glasgow). The programme builds upon a successful pilot, supported by Thinking Culture / Collaborations & Cultural Activities Committee, School of Culture & Creative Arts and for this edition is coordinated by Void Art Centre (https://www.instagram.com/voidartcentre/) and curated by Dr Viviana Checchia.
