About This Event

Beacon Academy sessions will take place at Ackers Adventure in Birmingham on 11 November 2026. These training sessions are designed for young riders aged 5-16 to develop their bike skills and fitness.

Training sessions developing bike skills.

Who? Open to young riders aged 5-16 who have developed some skills.

What? Training sessions developing bike skills and fitness.

When? Various dates, mostly Wednesdays; see the "check availability" button for session dates and times. Further dates TBA. Please arrive in good time if you are borrowing a bike.

Where? Ackers Adventure, Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath, Birmingham, B11 2PY. If you are borrowing a bike, head for 'Ackers Base Camp'.

Why? Develop skills, fitness and tactics – and have fun doing so.

What equipment do I need? A working bike; helmet; gloves; clothing that can keep you warm enough – but not so you get too hot putting an effort in; layers are good. See Bike, Helmet and Clothing Checklist (PDF) (https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/Bike_helmet_and_clothing_checklist_2017.pdf). Please make sure the bike has lights, and the rider is wearing something bright!

What if I haven’t got a bike like that? Let us know by selecting the 'borrow-a-bike' option and we can sort it out. We aim to have bikes available for the sessions but do check first.

Does a parent or caregiver have to be on site during the session? Yes.

What if we have very young children? The hall at Ackers Base Camp is available as an indoor space, most weeks the Ski Centre reception area will also be open.

Safeguarding: The club's welfare officer is Kate Dighton, who can be contacted at welfare@beaconrcc.org.uk.

How much? The sessions are free of charge for members. Junior club membership (http://beaconrcc.org.uk/join/) is £5. Non-members are welcome at £2 per session.

Do I have to fill anything in? Please complete a consent form (DOCX) (http://beaconrcc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/consentformblank_2025.docx) for all riders and email to academy@beaconrcc.org.uk in advance. For the young riders, a parent/carer must be present.
