Bring a book, grab a drink and enjoy some peaceful reading in the heart of Birmingham.

As part of the National Year of Reading, join Bromsgrove Book Club at The Exchange for Booktober Reading Day, a relaxed celebration of reading for pleasure.

And it's a particularly good day to be a book lover in Centenary Square. The Birmingham Literature Festival 2026 will be taking place just opposite at Birmingham Rep, with a programme of literary events happening throughout Saturday.

Why not make a day of it? Enjoy some quiet reading with us at The Exchange, then head across the square to soak up more of Birmingham's literary celebrations.

Join us for Silent Book Club

Love reading but never seem to find enough time for it?

Bring a book, find a comfortable spot and enjoy some peaceful reading alongside fellow book lovers.

Unlike a traditional book club, there's no set book. Simply bring whatever you're currently enjoying and read at your own pace.

We'll be gathering at the South Entrance, behind the café.

What is Silent Book Club?

Silent Book Club brings readers together to enjoy books in quiet camaraderie. The idea is wonderfully simple: bring your own book, read together and socialise if you feel like it.

The plan

Arrive, grab a drink and share what you're reading.

📖 11:30am

Quiet reading begins. Bring any book you like, plus headphones if you would rather block out background noise.

💬 12:30pm

Optional socialising and book chat, or simply carry on reading.

We're in great company on 10 October. The Birmingham Literature Festival 2026 is running nearby, including events at Birmingham Rep on the same day.

So whether you're visiting the festival, joining us especially for Silent Book Club, or simply looking for an excuse to spend your Saturday surrounded by books, come and celebrate reading in the heart of Birmingham.
