About This Event

Brum Exchange: The Civic Social is scheduled for 11 November 2026 at Nexus cafe in Birmingham. This event aims to bring young people together to discuss local political issues and foster conversations about the future of the city.

Into Politics? Care about Brum? Meet new people, share your views & have real convos about politics, our city & everything in between!

Welcome to Brum Exchange!

Brum has a lot going on right now.

From the council's financial crisis and bin strikes to the changing political landscape, there’s plenty to talk about.

But how often do we actually get the chance to sit down with others and discuss what’s happening in our city and what it means for us?

That's where Brum Exchange comes in.

We’re bringing young people together for a relaxed monthly social to discuss politics, current issues and the future of our city. It's a space to share perspectives, meet new people, challenge your thinking, and be part of conversations that matter.

You don't need to be a political expert. If you're curious about what's happening around you, care about Birmingham, and enjoy good conversations, you'll fit right in.

What to expect

Open and engaging discussions about Birmingham and the issues shaping our communities.

A chance to meet new people from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Interactive group conversations and activities.

Opportunities to learn, debate, and exchange ideas in a respectful way.

Looking ahead

As Brum Exchange grows, future events will feature guest speakers, including authors, politicians, academics and influencers who can offer fresh perspectives.

Expect interesting convos, new ideas and opportunities to connect with people you might not otherwise meet.

Why Brum Exchange?

At the heart of Brum Exchange is a simple idea: turning Birmingham’s civic deficit into a civic surplus.

What does that mean?

Too often politics feels distant, complicated or like something that happens without us. We want to close that gap between people and decisions being made about the city.

We want to change that by creating a space where people feel more informed, more connected and more confident about engaging with the future of their city.

For our first Brum Exchange, we're kicking things off with a conversation about identity, belonging, and what it means to call Birmingham home. Discussion questions and itinerary will be shared by email before the event

Brum Exchange is politically neutral and welcomes people from all political backgrounds and viewpoints.
