About This Event

The Under the Sultan's Shadow Exhibition at MIAH Gallery offers educational visits for school and home education groups. The experience includes guided tours, quizzes, objects, and creative activities focused on Ottoman history. Tickets are priced at £11.55.

We welcome school and home education groups to explore Ottoman history through guided tours, quizzes, objects, and creative activities.

Bring your students to Under the Sultan’s Shadow: How Imperial Identity Shaped Ottoman Life and Culture, an engaging exhibition exploring the legacy of the Ottoman Empire through objects, manuscripts, maps, and artwork.

We welcome school, home education, and youth groups for curriculum-linked visits suitable for Key Stages 2–5. Sessions include a guided tour led by a member of staff, during which students complete a quiz sheet, followed by an object-focused creative activity at our interactive activity table. Larger groups may be split into smaller groups or divided by age to ensure the best experience for all participants. Highlights include a facsimile of illuminated poetry by Sultan Suleiman (Muhibbi Divani), maps by the explorer Piri Reis, and a 16th-century Ottoman tile from the Dome of the Rock.

The exhibition supports learning in History, Religious Studies, Art & Design, and Geography, encouraging students to explore themes such as empire and governance, religion and society, urban life, cultural exchange, and material culture. Through close engagement with historical sources and objects, students will examine how power, identity, and culture shaped everyday life in the Ottoman world.

Sessions run Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30am–12pm between 11 June 2026 and 31 July 2026 on the following dates:

June Dates:

11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th & 26th
