Thirty years after the film redefined British cinema, Irvine Welsh’s own stage adaptation of *Trainspotting* arrives at The Alexandra, Birmingham, on 30 November 2026 at 7.30pm. Billed as the world premiere of *Trainspotting: The Musical*, the production features music and lyrics co-written by Welsh and Stephen McGuinness, and has been directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger. This live staging returns to the raw, unflinching core of Welsh’s novel, following a group of young Edinburgh addicts as they navigate poverty, violence, and the desperate pursuit of the next hit. The score is designed to amplify the story’s visceral energy and dark humour, bringing a new dimension to a narrative that has unsettled and captivated audiences for decades.
