About Abigail:

Abigail Villarroel is a Venezuelan-born, Birmingham-based artist, writer and facilitator whose practice explores queer and diasporic world-building, folklore and belonging. At the centre of his work is The Butterfly Cow (La Vaca Mariposa), a shapeshifting figure through which he reimagines Venezuelan histories, folklore, queerness and migration, bringing together saints, independence heroes, beauty queens, animals and invented mythologies.

Radical Exhibition Collective is a film collective with a focus on supporting access to film culture in Birmingham. Through diasporic programming and centring subaltern expression, REC seeks to increase access to independent, archival and experimental film and moving image. They recognise the potential of film watching spaces as sites of resistance, community gathering and a tool for collective liberation.
