A chance to get creative and make your own zine in the biggest library in Europe! Meet other zine makers, learn something new, and have fun.

Join our club!

Flex your creative muscles and make your own zine with a group of other enthusiastic makers. Never made one before? Don't know where to start? No worries! We'll explore different methods of putting zines together, have plenty of basic craft resources on hand for you to use, and lots of inspiration. All you need to bring is your curiosity.

It's spooky season! In this month's meetup, we'll be shining the single-bulb spotlight on horror and nostalgia. Why these two themes together? It's a common feature of horror media to take something nostalgic or familiar and twist it into something unfamiliar and uncanny. The word uncanny even originates from unheimlich, which means un-homely! For this session you can either take something you're nostalgic for and make it creepy, or create a zine based around a particular piece of horror/spooky media that you find nostalgic. Doing this helps us see the world around us and the things we love through a radically different perspective. What do our themes mean to you? How can you express your thoughts and feelings about it on paper? Zines can be many things, so if you'd like to write poetry or an essay, make some drawings or a collage, the sky is the limit.

Not only is our club completely FREE, you will also have a free photocopy allowance of 5 black and white copies or 1 colour copy to make a small print run to share your zine with others. If you are willing, we are also thinking of starting a zine collection at the library, so let us know if you would like to leave a copy of your zine with us!

Come and find us in the HLS Room on Level 4 of the Library of Birmingham.
