As autumn deepens and the year turns towards winter, join us for a gentle seasonal walk exploring our connection with the trees around us.

This isn’t simply a tree-identification walk. We’ll slow down, look more closely and explore the woodland as a living community, discovering how trees have been woven into our food, medicine, folklore, craft and seasonal traditions for generations.

Along the way, we’ll explore some of the trees growing in Whitehall Park, the ways our ancestors understood and used them, what is happening inside the trees as they prepare for winter, and their relationships with fungi, wildlife and the wider woodland.

Why Samhain?

Samhain marks an ancient seasonal threshold between autumn and winter, traditionally associated with endings, remembrance and the beginning of the darker half of the year.

We’ll use this turning point in the seasonal calendar as an opportunity to reconnect with place, notice what is changing around us and discover some of the stories and practical knowledge connected with our native trees.

Expect a relaxed couple of hours with plenty of time for questions, conversation, shared memories and simply experiencing the landscape a little differently.

Complete beginners are very welcome.
