This hands-on embroidery workshop at Gawthorpe Textiles Collection in Blackburn allows participants to stitch unique shoes inspired by Chinese designs. The session is available by appointment only. The price is £50.00.
Get creative stitching your own unique shoes, inspired by Chinese embroidered shoes, in this fun, hands-on embroidery session.
Taking inspiration from embroidered Chinese shoes in the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection you will be shown how to embroider a pair of pastel canvas trainers.
At the start of the workshop you will have the chance to view some of the shoes in the collection including the blue satin embroidered slippers that the workshop is based on. We will be using simple embroidery stitches to recreate beautiful imagery of lotus flowers, waterlilies and butterflies. The tutor will demonstrate the process, taking you through the activity stage by stage. At the end of the workshop you will be able to take away your shoes and embroidery threads to finish at home.
Shoes and all other materials will be provided but you might want to bring along your own sewing kit (scissors, needles, etc.) if you have one.
The workshop will be led by Bev Lamey. Until recently Bev was the Community Engagement Officer at GTC and was previously a Principal Lecturer in Fashion & Textiles at the University of Central Lancashire where she was course leader for the MA Surface Pattern and Textiles. Bev has run numerous workshops for GTC and has experience of teaching a variety of textiles techniques.
