The Cast Iron Theatre Table Read will take place at Open House in Brighton on 29 September 2026, providing an opportunity for people to hear their scripts or stories read aloud.
Got a script or story you need to hear out loud? Bring an extract along to the next Cast Iron Theatre Table Read!
Take the chance to hear an extract of your work in progress read out loud, invite feedback and reaction, and get to read fellow creatives' own work with this invaluable opportunity to level up your writing! Free of charge, and a welcoming, inclusive and supportive space curated by local author and playwright Andrew Allen!
Each session will be free of charge, but it's strongly advised that you book ahead.
Only extracts are permitted, not full manuscripts. Generally, this will average out at between 8 - 10 pages. Pick the pages that you genuinely need to hear out loud, not the pages you already know work.
The pages do not have to be 8-10 consecutive pages.
The aim is to look at scripts: stage, film, TV, sketch and similar. However, there is nothing to stop you bringing along prose - short or longform.
Cast Iron do not have the funds to print off your pages. You will print them off yourself, or be happy to email them to participants so they can read from their devices.
It is possible that only a couple of people attend, in which case: great! You get a 1:1 dramaturgy session for free. But in the case that we are oversubscribed, it is possible that we won't get around to your manuscript in this session. That said:
Priority will go to - those who have booked, and
Those who have booked, and didn't get seen in a previous session.
Each session will be free. There might be a QR code that I tap meaningfully a couple of times for donations towards my time and funding Cast Iron, but there's no obligation.
If we find ourselves reading a manuscript that is transphobic, racist, sexist, gratiously violent or contains graphic scenes of sex or violence, we retain the right to stop reading and in extreme cases, invite the author to leave. Everyone should feel safe within the space.
The space will be curated to be as welcoming, supportive and as inclusive as possible, but please be aware that feedback to your piece may be negative. This will not be the space to defend / explain your work. That said, I'm not going to permit a pile on.
