Jo Goddard will lead a mask making workshop inspired by traditional mummers masks. Make a lightweight mask to take away.

Using an easy technique that combines chicken-wire, brown tape, wool, natural fabrics and found materials, Jo will show participants how to make lightweight, flexible masks. Mask makers will be using glue guns, sewing, free felting, hand tools and other techniques. Put together a mask that you can use in your own performance or just for fun. The workshops are inspired by traditional mummers masks from the UK and Eastern Europe. We will be using some good quality supplies - wool roving from World of Wool and yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners. Plus vintage faux fur and vintage notions.

Jo has thirty years of experience making head dresses and masks. Her creative journey began in Brighton, where she spent ten years making headdresses for the legendary Vavavavoom Burlesque club and Theatre of Fur. She now makes masks and costumes for her Hognutters Mummers, a Sussex based folk performance group.
