September Moonshine Improv Jam - The Song Moon

Hello Moonshinerz!

Welcome to the Moonshine Improv Jams! Named so, because the moonlight invokes special places within us, and moonshine was an illicit drink made at midnight, a source of fun and basically another word for nonsense!

The Moonshine Jams are monthly improv jams in Brighton, each one shaped by the Celtic full moon of the month. It's Septmeber, the nights are drawing in and it's time to gather together for the Song Moon: the feast, the singing, the main harvest.

"Tonight we sing together. Offer your note, we will build the harmony. Nobody carries the tune alone."

Our theme this month is harmony "sing together".

Details:

When: Sunday 27 September, 6pm to [end time]

Where: The Pepper Room (upstairs), The Islingword, 175 Queen's Park Road, Brighton BN2 9ZA

Access: The Pepper Room is upstairs in a Victorian building. Unfortunately, not step-free, but we do aim to resolve this in the future for Moonshine Jams.

Tickets: Please book so that we know how many are joining. Choose the ticket that works for you: standard, free concession, or supporter (a little extra to help keep the nights going).

Can't make it? Please cancel so someone else can have your place.

The theme is: harmony

Group scenes and musicality. We'll warm up, play some short games, and build scenes with lots of us on stage at once, finding a shared rhythm and letting the whole group carry the moment. You don't need to be able to sing, or even do any singing (though you are very welcome to).

The Song Moon cheer

Every moon has its own cheer. On the Grain Moon it was "Eat the Bread!" (Sorry if I forgot this in our last Jam! :/) This month, when a group scene clicks into harmony, the whole room shouts: "Sing it!" Please shout it. Loudly.

Is it for you?

If you've done a course or two (improv, acting, drag, character, clown, anything else we've forgotten), you're in! We're neurodivergent and queer-led, and we'll make sure everyone feels included, welcome, energised and embraced (psychologically, unless you enthusiastically consent to a big cwtch, then we're squeezing you). If you want a space to be silly, ridiculous and just be yourself, yes please.

How we play

Belong here. And mean it. No hierarchy, no judgement.

Say yes to the mess. Failing is part of it, not a risk.

Leave better than you arrived. New scene partners, something learned, every time.
