Red Snapper is a pioneering British instrumental band formed in London in 1993 by Ali Friend (double bass), Richard Thair (drums), and David Ayers (guitar). They are widely renowned for their innovative blend of acoustic instrumentation and electronic textures, seamlessly fusing genres like acid jazz, dub, dark funk, hip-hop, drum & bass, and Afro-Jazz

Following the success of their album ‘Barb and Feather’ on Lo Recordings and a full UK Tour in 2025, Red Snapper will return to the live circuit with a brand new album in May 2027. Rich, Ali and Tara will be joined on stage for the tour by the phenomenal Sax/Clarinet/Keys player George Mooney. The new album promises to maintain the band’s reputation as being consistently ground breaking and relevant as has been the case through their 30 year career….with new musical elements to the fore and new rhythmical furrows ploughed. Tara Cunningham and George Mooney are both intrinsic to the album. Resident Snapper sax player Tom Challenger also appears on the album but will be taking a well earned sabbatical next year and so will pass the baton for the majority of the tour into the brilliant hands of Mr Mooney…… The live show will be as passionate and energetic as ever. Audiences will be the first to hear new album material alongside plenty of Snapper’s favourites. The band are excited to present this new music which they consider to be the most powerful and dynamic they have produced since Reeled and Skinned. The UK tour will include some returns to familiar, loved venues but also, and tellingly, Red Snapper are delighted to be reaching out to new towns and cities such as St Leonards, Blackpool, CardiR, Hebden Bridge, and to be furnishing them with the band’s unique blend of jazz, punk, hip hop,dub and soundtrack. The shows promise to be fresh, impassioned, experimental, elevating and resonant……musical gold.
