Join exhibition curators Clémentine Proby and Nicole Yip for a tour of Beverly Buchanan: Weathering, the first European survey of Buchanan’s work. Bringing together five decades of sculpture, painting, drawing, earthworks, artists’ books and archival material, the exhibition explores Buchanan’s enduring interest in memory, materiality and place, and the histories embedded in architecture, landscape and everyday materials.

Clémentine and Nicole will share insights into the exhibition and Buchanan’s practice, exploring the themes and works brought together at Spike Island.

NICOLE YIP

Nicole Yip is Director of Spike Island, Bristol. She is a Canadian curator and writer based in the UK, with extensive experience developing exhibitions and live programmes internationally. Before joining Spike Island in 2024, Yip was Chief Curator of Exhibitions & Live Programmes at Nottingham Contemporary, where she curated exhibitions by artists including Assemble, Meriem Bennani, Dora Budor, Charlotte Johannesson and Paul Mpagi Sepuya. Previously, she was Director of LUX Scotland and held curatorial positions at LUX, Firstsite and the ICA. Her projects have been presented internationally, including at Centre Pompidou, Paris, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Her writing has appeared in Frieze, CURA and Yale University Press.

CLÉMENTINE PROBY

Clémentine Proby is Curator at Spike Island, Bristol, where she has worked with artists including Nancy Lupo, Olukemi Lijadu and Tohé Commaret to develop new commissions. Before joining Spike Island in 2025, Proby worked at Mudam Luxembourg, where she curated exhibitions including Cosima von Bonin: Songs for Gay Dogs and After Laughter Comes Tears, and collaborated with artists including Eleanor Antin, Bárbara Sánchez-Kane, James Richards & Billy Bultheel, Motoko Ishibashi, Price and Sung Tieu. She has contributed to and edited several exhibition catalogues and has worked with organisations including the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Chisenhale Art Studios, the Fondation Louis Vuitton and UNESCO. From 2019–2022, she co-founded and directed the project space Maison Touchard in London. She holds master’s degrees from Sciences Po, Paris, and Goldsmiths, University of London.
