WHAT IS CONSCIOUS DANCE?

Concsious Dance is practice which allows us to drop into spontaneous movement with no steps learn. This is a contained space to express what’s alive in you.

This is non-verbal space where we dance sober (no alcohol or substances) barefoot (to be fully conscious in the here and now) and to music intended to awaken deep emotions and sensations.

The journey works like a wave starting with slow flowing music to warm up the body and find presence, which then builds up in intensity to a peak before bringing us down gently into integration and relaxation. Sometimes the journey may have more than one peak, each varying in quality and intensity depending on the music.

GUIDELINES:

No booze: This event is strictly a drugs and alcohol free space

No shoes: We dance barefoot or with gripped socks/dance shoes

No chit-chat: We value presence and body language

No tech: We value the opportunity to disconnect from technology altogether

Stay dressed: Tops and bottoms stay on for all genders

Consent & Bounderies: We are mindful and respectful of the personal space of other dancers and take full responsibility for communicating our boundaries and expressing our consent whenever the invitation to dance with another or a group arises.

WHAT TO BRING:

A reusable water bottle

Comfortable clothes to move in

Warm clothing/blanket for relaxation

Curiosity and an open mind

About your host:

Raquel has been working in conscious dance spaces since launching into the world of Ecstatic Dance in 2022 and before that, discovering 5 Rhythms in 2013 which planted the seed to embark on a personal journey of self-discovery through the power of movement and music as medicine.

She's gained a lot of experience guest Djing across the country at most of the major Ecstatic Dance events including EDUK, ED Brighton, ED Bristol and co-founding Ecstatic Dance Somerset in 2025.

She's also played at various events/festivals at the Leela Centre (FKA Osho Leela) as well as Ministry of Sound London and festivals such as Noisily, Buddhafield, Into the Wild and Elevate to name a few.

Her life mission is to help your healing & well-being journey by inviting your authentic rhythm and presence onto the dance floor.

The Journey so far:

2013 : I spent 2 months in a Yoga Teacher Training (200 hour Accreditation) after quitting my office job and travelling to Latin America. It was the first time I spent so embodied into a daily practice learning for the pure enjoyment of just that and it changed my perspective so much!

2021: After finding 5 Rhythms and getting into a new creative career and starting to DJ at home, I came across Dance the Medicine and graduated from their Ecstatic Dance Leadership Training Course. This cemented my love for music and dance in a way that carries me forward to this day. Very grateful!!

2026: After almost 5 years of holding space as a conscious dance DJ at many events, I'm taking steps into new training and possibilities with Embodied Dance Teacher Training and Dance of Awareness (Devon School for Embodied Therapy)

Looking forward to keep learning on this beautiful path of dance and magic that we all co-create on every dance floor we fully step into!!

The Medicine:

You can expect to dance to music from around the world and contemporary electronic beats from a wide range of genres such as: House (Organic, Melodic, Progressive, Tropical, Funky, Jazzy, Afro-Latin, Electro, and more), Folktronica, Techno (Minimal, Percussive etc), Psy-trance, Electronica (Experimental, 90’s, Broken-beats), Drum & Bass, Classical/Neo-Classical and much more!
