About This Event

A welcoming and relaxed analogue photo walk around Frome. Bring a camera and some film and come hang out with other local photographers. Hosted by Fromography. This is a welcoming and relaxed analogue photo walk around Frome, taking place shortly after the Frome Wessex Camera & Photographic Fair on Sunday, 25th October. This walk is open to everyone, but especially the film photography community in Frome, along with anyone from nearby Bath, Bristol, Somerset, and Wiltshire. The circular walk will be approx 3.5km and will start and finish at Justice Lane, by the marketplace in Frome. (what3words: ///region.ramp.bared) If you don’t have a film camera, that’s okay! Choose a community camera ticket before the event and we can bring one along for you, loaded with film and ready to go. The event is free, but please kindly book a ticket so we know you’ll be there! About Fromography Fromography is a non-profit project focused on breaking down barriers to film photography. We're a welcoming, inclusive community for all analogue photographers and anyone who wishes to experiment and play with darkroom processes and printing. We currently run monthly social events and photo walks, and are working towards an accessible, sustainable community darkroom, aka "The Dark Frome”. In the future, we will be running hands-on film processing and printing workshops, as well as camera repair workshops and exhibition events. Fromography is LGBTQ+ run, and a safe space for anyone who identifies as queer, trans, non-binary and those who consider themselves neurodivergent. If there's anything you would like to share, or if you have any suggestions for how we can improve the project, please kindly email mae@fromography.co.uk or follow @fromography for updates. About The Fair The Frome Wessex Camera & Photographic Fair is the South West’s largest camera and photographic fair. Over 30+ traders will be selling everything photographic, including used cameras (collectable, analogue, modern), lenses, filters, flashguns, film, paper, accessories, books, prints and more. The fair provides a great opportunity to buy, sell, and exchange cameras and other equipment. More info available here: https://www.fromewessexphotographic.com/mainclubpage/camera-fair (https://www.fromewessexphotographic.com/mainclubpage/camera-fair) The Walk Approx 3.5km, some steep hills and raised curbs in place but no steps or stairs. The walk will take us briefly near main roads, so be safe and watch your surroundings. Safety & Accessibility This photo walk is a safe space for anyone who identifies as queer, trans, non-binary, women, and those who consider themselves neurodivergent. If you feel uncomfortable about an interaction at an event, or would like any additional assistance on the day, please speak to the organiser (Mae) immediately, who will help with this. Parking & Travel Frome train station is right at the start of the walk, with trains from Bristol and Bath every hour or so. If driving from outside of Frome, car parks are available in town, with reasonable parking costs. Please note the car park at the station can get busy on Saturday, and finding a space can be more difficult. Community Rules Be Kind. There is a place for critique in creative practice, but this social meetup is intended as a relaxed, welcoming space to encourage others and lift them up, not to shoot them down. Print Your Work. If you would like to show off your photography, we ask that you bring prints! It's lovely to be able to show something tangible and there's plenty of space to spread out prints on the table for others to share and enjoy. Screen-Free. Please bring your favourite film camera, but try to keep phones in bags or pockets where possible. Keeping the space, your hands, and your head available for connection and conversation is a key part of why we love all things analogue. Comfort & Consent. Always ask for permission before taking a photo of another attendee, for any reason.(Yes, even if the light is really good.) If any images taken at the event are used for marketing future events, consent will be requested from subjects in the photos before posting.
