Join Professor Mats Alvesson for an evening in conversation with Professor Martin Parker, exploring Alvesson’s latest book, Return to Judgement: The Case for Post-Infantilized Management.

Mats Alvesson is Professor at the University of Bath, Lund University and City University of London, and is widely known for his critical work on organisations, management and leadership. In this conversation, he will discuss the growing role of management, bureaucracy and regulation in modern organisations, and ask what happens when these systems leave less space for people to exercise their own judgement and take responsibility.

Drawing on examples from universities, healthcare and other industries, Return to Judgement challenges the assumption that more management, policies and expertise lead to better organisations. Alvesson makes the case for a different approach: one that gives workers greater autonomy and encourages judgement and critical thinking.

The conversation will be chaired by Martin Parker, Professor of Organization Studies at the University of Bristol, and will be followed by an opportunity for audience questions.
