About This Event

The Journey, a special performance by Tenebrae, will take place on 29 January 2027 at Bristol Cathedral. This concert celebrates the ensemble's 25th anniversary, featuring a programme that explores various musical journeys across time and geography. The event will include both classic pieces and new commissions.

Join Tenebrae at Bristol Cathedral for this very special performance of a programme which celebrates 25 years of Tenebrae!

"The Journey is the programme we’ve created especially for our 25th anniversary this season, and we're delighted to bring it to Bristol Cathedral. The title means a lot to all of us in Tenebrae, but it’s especially meaningful to me. Many of the pieces explore journeys - some geographical, some spiritual - and together they chart a musical path across centuries and continents. But for me, at its core, The Journey is about Tenebrae’s own path over the past twenty-five years. There’s music from programmes that have shaped us as an ensemble, like Russian Treasures and Figure Humaine. We’ve commissioned brand new pieces from several composers who have already made significant contributions to our repertoire, and from others with whom we’re working for the first time. Perhaps most importantly, this is music that takes us on our most profound emotional journeys. All of this music is deeply moving, and I honestly don’t believe there’s any group who can perform it quite like Tenebrae. I could not be more proud of how far this ensemble has come, and of the shared journey that lies ahead of us.” - Nigel Short
