About This Event

The BMC Hill Walking: Social Walk will occur on 17 October 2026 in the Peak District, with the meeting venue to be announced. This event, organised by the BMC and LDWA, includes a history walk and talk. Tickets are available for £2.00.

Join the BMC and LDWA for a history walk and talk around the Peak District

A circular walk starting from Bowden Bridge car park, the meeting place for the Kinder Mass Trespass. From here, we will walk to the site of the old train station, then on to Lantern Pike (one for the Ethel baggers). Hear the history and legend of Robin Hoods Picking Rods then on to Harry Hut trig point, visit a plane crash site on the way to Mill Hill, then down William clough were we discover more on the mass trespass. Finally we learn the back story to Kinder Reservoir, before heading back to the carpark.

This social walk is hosted by the BMC in partnership with LDWA. We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day in the outdoors!

The LDWA is an association of people with the common interest of walking long distances in rural, mountainous or moorland areas. They have 40 local groups that organise social walks & challenge events. This group is the High Peak, who try to organise two social walks (16-20 miles) each month, predominately in the Peak District

Meet the Leader

Alex is a qualified Hill & Moorland Leader and the BMC Peak District Hill Walking Rep. He leads walks on behalf of the BMC and other organisations and is now working towards his Mountain Leader qualification.

Alex has achieved the NNAS gold navigation award and the NNAS tutor award, and has completed many walking challenges, including a 50-mile challenge in 22 hours, which was self-navigated and completed in 18 hours.

Alex mainly leads walks in the Derbyshire Peaks but also leads walks elsewhere. As an ex drystone waller, he has always been interested in the outdoors and in the history of different areas.
