About this walk
These weekday walks take place regularly throughout the Peak District and are designed to help women build confidence in the outdoors while discovering some of the area's most beautiful landscapes, fascinating history and hidden gems.
Beginning at the historic Millers Dale Station, we'll follow the River Wye into the spectacular limestone gorge of Chee Dale. Along the way we'll cross the famous stepping stones, wander beneath towering limestone cliffs and discover why this peaceful valley was once a tropical coral reef over 330 million years ago.
We'll also uncover the fascinating story of the Midland Railway, the engineering of Millers Dale Viaduct and how people have shaped this landscape through quarrying and lime burning.
This walk is classed as Intermediate and is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy beautiful scenery while learning more about the incredible history and geology of the White Peak.
Distance: approx 8 km
Level: Intermediate – a mixture of riverside paths, stepping stones, woodland trails and a few steady climbs. There are a couple of steep and rocky limestone sections that need some sure-footedness.
Elevation: Approx 237m
Time: Approx 3-4 hours including lunch and photo stops
