Sew Your Own Pocket Skirt with Z in the Attic

Sunday 20 September 2026 | 10am–3pm Macclesfield Community ArtSpace

Part of Macclesfield Textile Week

Fancy making yourself something you’ll actually want to wear?

Join Zoë from Z in the Attic for a relaxed, supportive sewing workshop where you’ll make your very own Peppermint Pocket Skirt — a stylish, practical midi skirt with proper pockets and plenty of room for you to put your own stamp on it.

Whether you’re a confident beginner looking for your next sewing project or you’ve been sewing for years and fancy spending a day making something for yourself, this workshop is all about taking your time, learning new skills and leaving with something you’re genuinely proud of.

What will you make?

You’ll work through the Peppermint Pocket Skirt pattern step by step, learning how to cut, construct and finish your skirt.

The pattern is a great balance of simple construction and useful sewing techniques, making it a satisfying project without being overwhelming.

And because this is Z in the Attic, we’ll be thinking about fabric differently too. I love giving beautiful fabrics another life, so there’ll be plenty of inspiration for choosing something with personality rather than settling for bland, mass-produced clothing.

What you’ll learn

During the day, I’ll guide you through:

Understanding and working with the pattern

Taking measurements and choosing the right size

Preparing and cutting your fabric

Sewing and constructing the skirt

Creating the waistband

Adding those all-important pockets

Finishing your seams neatly

Troubleshooting along the way

You don’t need to know everything before you arrive. That’s what I’m there for.

There’ll be plenty of support, demonstrations and opportunities to ask questions. I deliberately keep my workshops small so that you get proper help rather than being left to figure things out on your own.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is aimed at confident beginners and intermediate sewers.

You should be comfortable using a sewing machine and have a basic understanding of sewing a straight seam.

It isn’t an absolute beginners’ sewing-machine class, if you’ve never used a sewing machine before, I’d recommend starting with one of my beginner workshops first.

But if you’ve made a few things and are ready to take the next step, this is a brilliant project.

What’s included?

Your £80 ticket includes:

Full-day sewing workshop with Zoë from Z in the Attic

Small-group tuition

your own copy of the Peppermint Pocket Skirt pattern & instruction booklet

Step-by-step guidance throughout the day

Sewing equipment and support

Plenty of time to work at your own pace

The satisfaction of making something yourself

Fabric is not included, so you can choose something that is completely you. Full fabric requirements and preparation information will be sent to you before the workshop.

What should I bring?

You’ll need to bring your fabric and any personal sewing essentials you prefer to use.

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you everything you need to know about fabric requirements, preparation and what to bring.

Bring yourself, your fabric and your enthusiasm. I’ll take care of the rest.

About Z in the Attic

I’m Zoë, the one-woman sewing machine behind Z in the Attic in Macclesfield.

My whole business is built around making, repairing and reusing rather than throwing away. I work with remnants, roll ends, deadstock and reclaimed fabrics to create colourful, useful clothing and accessories.

My workshops follow the same ethos: learn the skills, make something brilliant and enjoy the process.

There’s no rushing and no expectation that you should magically know what you’re doing. Just good sewing, proper support and a day spent making.

Macclesfield Textile Week

This workshop is part of the inaugural Macclesfield Textile Week, running from 19–27 September 2026.

The week celebrates Macclesfield’s incredible textile heritage while shining a light on the makers, artists, businesses and creative community keeping that tradition alive today. (Silk Museum (https://www.thesilkmuseum.co.uk/textileweek?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

Come and be part of it and leave with a skirt you made yourself.
