George Street Community Bookshop and Friends of Whitfield Rec and Green Spaces present this inspiring event about rewilding.

With increased flooding, wild fires and concerns about wildlife, the management of moorland has never been a more important issue.

Rewilding is a potential solution that can secure and protect the moorland environment for everyone. Featuring a film, Q&A and discussion with local environmental experts, we explore what moorland rewilding might look like and ask: if it works elsewhere, why not Glossop?

Hosted by Friends of Whitfield Rec and Green Spaces and George Street Community Bookshop, we are delighted to be hosting a screening of SCOTLAND: The Big Picture’s brand new feature-length documentary, Why Not Scotland?.

The film explores the Scottish landscape through the eyes of Flo, a young Scot from Glasgow on a journey around Europe, where she encounters places where nature is making a dramatic comeback, revitalising human communities.

Though focussed on Scotland, much of the content and context is relevant to the Dark Peak and the challenges we face here.

The screening will be followed by a discussion on rewilding opportunities in the High Peak featuring local ecologists and environmentalists.
