Helping communities, landowners and organisations across Cambridgeshire plant native trees and hedgerows for nature and wildlife.

Cambridgeshire Tree & Hedgerow Pack Giveaway 2026/27

In partnership with the Woodland Trust

As part of National Tree Week, Cambridgeshire County Council is pleased to offer a free Tree and Hedgerow Pack Giveaway, delivered in partnership with the Woodland Trust and supported through Forestry Commission funding. Together, we are helping communities, landowners and organisations across Cambridgeshire to plant more trees and hedgerows, create wildlife habitat, support biodiversity and contribute to a greener future for the county.

Whether you are looking to create new wildlife habitat, connect existing green spaces, improve landscape resilience, support pollinators, or enhance a community space, we encourage you to apply. Applicants may apply for either a Tree Pack or a Hedgerow Pack, subject to availability and eligibility criteria.

Hedgerow Packs

Each Hedgerow Pack contains:

· 250 native hedgerow shrubs

· Plant protection and guards

· Approximately 2 to 3 hedgerow trees

Each pack is suitable for creating approximately 50 metres of new native hedgerow.

Applicants may request up to 3 Hedgerow Packs, providing sufficient planting stock for approximately 150 metres of hedgerow.

Tree Packs

Each Tree Pack contains:

· 50 native broadleaved trees

· 1.2 metre tree tubes and stakes

Each pack is suitable for planting approximately 0.03 hectares of new tree cover.

Applicants may request up to 2 Tree Packs, providing approximately 100 trees and sufficient stock for around 0.06 hectares of planting.

Applicants may apply for either a Tree Pack or a Hedgerow Pack, subject to availability and eligibility criteria.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are welcomed from:

· Private landowners

· Farmers and smallholders

· Parish and town councils

· Community groups

· Schools and educational organisations

· Charities

· Other organisations with suitable land available for planting

Applicants must have permission from the landowner before applying.

Applicant Responsibilities

As part of receiving a pack, applicants will be required to:

· Provide information on where the trees or hedgerow will be planted.

· Confirm they have permission to undertake the planting.

· Agree to plant all stock before the end of February 2027.

· Follow the planting and aftercare guidance supplied.

· Be responsible for ongoing maintenance and establishment.

Successful establishment is dependent on appropriate aftercare. Applicants should therefore be prepared to:

· Water trees and hedgerow plants during dry periods.

· Maintain mulch around planting where appropriate.

· Check and maintain guards and tubes.

· Control competing vegetation.

· Replace failed plants where necessary to establish a healthy and resilient planting scheme.

Collection Arrangements

Plants will not be posted or delivered as standard.

Successful applicants will be invited to collect their packs from a central Cambridgeshire collection point during one of the following distribution periods:

· National Tree Week (November 2026)

· February Half Term (February 2027)
