About this event
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is bringing the Community Liver Health Checks (CLHC) Programme to the Cambridge Wellness Festival on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Who is this for?
Community Liver Health Checks are intended for adults who may have risk factors for liver disease, including people who:
Drink more alcohol than the recommended limits currectly or in the past
Have or have previously had Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, or may be at risk
Are aged 50 or over with type 2 diabetes and obesity
Are aged 50 or over with fatty liver disease (MASLD)
Have more than one risk factor for liver disease
Our free liver health checks help identify early signs of liver disease before symptoms develop. Early detection can make a significant difference and allows people to access advice, monitoring or treatment if needed.
Why have a liver health check?
Liver disease often develops without noticeable symptoms. A quick liver health check can help detect problems early, allowing support and treatment before serious liver damage occurs.
What happens at a liver health check?
Depending on your eligibility, your appointment may include a FibroScan®, a painless, non-invasive scan that:
Measures liver stiffness and fat levels
Uses ultrasound technology
Takes around 10–15 minutes
Provides immediate results in most cases
Some attendees may instead be offered a blood test if appropriate.
What to expect
Friendly NHS staff
Private assessment
Non-invasive liver scan (where appropriate)
Lifestyle advice and information
Guidance on any next steps if further assessment is needed
Important information
Please allow approximately 15–20 minutes.
Eligibility will be confirmed by the clinical team on the day. For confirmation in advance you could email the team at cuh.communityliverhealth@nhs.net
If you have had a FibroScan within the last 5 years, you may not require another scan.
