All electric, no gas on a budget. - 1970's end-of-terrace - loft insulation, solar PV & battery, Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP).

Joe started pursuing options as soon as he moved into the house, so as to maximise the financial benefits over his time living here. He had the loft converted into a storage space, and got the insulation upgraded from 200mm to 300mm in the same process. Next came the solar PV and battery installation which provides enough energy for the whole house from April to September. Finally Joe replaced the gas top stove with an induction hob, and replaced the gas combi boiler with a heat pump. This meant Joe could cut the gas supply to the house completely, and make further savings when it comes to heating the house and hot water.

For those that are interested, Joe can also talk about his Home Assistant set up. This allows Joe to display his energy stats (including real-time heat pump efficiency) on an e-ink display. It also allows Joe to control his energy system via Claude.
