Electric retrofit - 1950's semi with solar PV, heat pump, smart home controls and EV charger.

We are an international family of three: a software engineer in the semiconductor industry, a sustainability consultant, and an art and animal lover. Sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint matter a lot to us, and that's shaped how we've approached improving our home.

We were already planning to install solar PV while we were renting, so we did that as soon as we moved into our own property. The heat pump was initially a more long term idea, mostly due to the initial cost. However, after receiving a quote much cheaper than expected, and considering that the gas boiler was already 12 years old, we decided to go ahead just one year after moving in.
