About This Event

The Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race will take place at the University of Kent Sports Centre in Canterbury on 24 January 2027. This long-standing race will utilise a new course located to the north of Canterbury. Entry is available from £34.00.

Race Information

The Canterbury 10 Mile is a long standing race, that this year will continue to benefit from the new course to the north of Canterbury with race HQ at the University of Kent Sports Centre (CT2 7NL). It is held on an undulating course which is largely traffic free and we hope will produce many PB's. The race is fully licensed by England Athletics and organised by Invicta East Kent AC. Please Note : The course is not suitable for Wheelchair competitors. Only bone conducting headphones are allowed (conventional earphones are not allowed and users may be disqualified). Also, runners are not allowed to take part carrying any amplified music or loudspeakers

Parking :

There is extensive parking near the Race HQ, using the Giles Lane (CT2 7NB) and Darwin/Rutherford (CT2 7NZ) car parks plus overflow car parks at Keynes and Eliot, which will be clearly marked. Once parked, runners should follow the signs to the nearby race HQ (5 minutes walk) to register. Please DO NOT park in the Park Wood or Sports Pavilion part of the campus and only in authorised car parks on the University campus as parking elsewhere may cause obstruction to the runners and delay the race. Vehicles and their contents are left entirely at owner’s risk.

Race HQ :

The HQ is at University of Kent Sports Centre, where race registrations will take place in the main sports hall, which will be open from 7.15am. There are also toilets, refreshments, bag drop in this area. It is also where the prize presentation will take place. The race HQ is right next to the Start and Finish areas in Sports Centre Road..

Number and Chip Collection :

There are 2 options. Firstly, they can be collected on race day, so please arrive in plenty of time & collect your running number/timing chips between 7.15am and 8.30am. This year we are also offering the opportunity for those entrants that wish to collect numbers and chips the day before the race (Sat 23rd Jan), to do so from the foyer area of the University Sports Centre between 3.00pm and 6.00pm. We are continuing to use disposable timing chips that are attached to your number. Numbers will be distributed in alphabetical order by surname. Signs at race HQ will indicate which queue you should be in. Please note that ID will be required. Queuing in the wrong queue will slow down the process for you & others. Race Officials will be on hand to help you.

Baggage Area :

The baggage area is located within Small Hall 2 which is directly behind the main sports hall. Bag drop tags will be attached to your race number. Please attach these to your bag (no extra large bags/hold-alls please) prior to placing in an area corresponding to your race number in the baggage area and allow extra time to do this. Stewards will be on hand to help you as necessary. Bag drop will be on race day between 7.30am and 8.45am. All items are left entirely at the owner’s risk.

Facilities and Refreshments :

Toilets are situated in University of Kent Sports Centre and will be clearly signed. There will be additional toilets available in adjacent Jennison and Freedman colleges plus a bank of Portaloo's which will be situated right next to the Sports Centre.

There are limited changing areas, although you would best arrive ready changed to run. Hot and cold refreshments and snacks will be on sale outside the race HQ.

Start and Finish Area and Course:

This is situated a right next to the race HQ in Sport Centre Road and Park Wood Road. Please arrive in this area in good time for the start of the race at 9.00am. There will be time boards to give you an indication where to stand. This is where there will be a briefing by Race Officials before the start of the race. The course is similar to 2026 and will involve initially completing a one mile loop around the University before going out on one big loop towards Whitstable, which will take in the villages of Tyler Hill and Radfall before turning back and following the Crab and Winkle Way to the University of Kent where the finish will be situated close to the start on Sport Centre Road. When starting and finishing, make sure you run over the timing mat. Also out on the course and at the finish, smile for our photographers. You will be able to download your photographs in the days following the race. There will be marshals guiding you around the course and there are 2 water stations at 3.5 miles and 7.8 miles. We will also have medical cover if you get into any difficulties. In the finish area you will be given your great new medal and there will be water and energy bars available.

Medals and Prizes :

For 2027 there is a super new bespoke finisher medal and increased cash prizes plus trophies to 1st (£250), 2nd (£150), 3rd (£100) male/female.
