A Creative Writing & Support Circle for Global Majority Mothers
Your stories. Your voice. Your village.
Motherhood can be beautiful, powerful and joyful — but it can also be lonely, overwhelming and full of experiences that are difficult to put into words.
Mother Tongue is a welcoming, in-person creative writing and support group for Global Majority mothers, hosted at The Happy Hub soft play.
It's a space to pause, breathe, write, reflect and connect with other mothers who understand the many layers of navigating motherhood, identity, culture, family, relationships and the world around us.
And because we know that finding childcare can be a barrier to taking time for yourself, we've made space for your little ones too!
While you take part in the group, your children can enjoy the soft play area with a dedicated childcare worker keeping an eye on them, giving you the opportunity to focus on yourself, your creativity and your wellbeing.
You don't need to consider yourself a writer.
You don't need to have anything prepared.
And you never have to share anything you don't want to.
Just bring yourself. We've made room for the rest.
✍🏽 What we'll do
Each session combines creative writing, gentle reflection and supportive conversation.
You can expect:
🌿 Creative writing prompts inspired by motherhood, identity, memory, culture and belonging.
🌿 Guided writing exercises to help you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
🌿 Time for yourself to write freely, reflect and reconnect with the parts of you that motherhood can sometimes put on the back burner.
🌿 Optional sharing and discussion in a supportive, judgement-free environment.
🌿 Honest conversations about motherhood and the things we don't always get to say out loud.
🌿 Connection and community with other Global Majority mothers.
🌿 Child-friendly support, with a dedicated person supervising the children's play area while you participate.
Whether you want to write a poem, tell your story, explore a memory or simply sit and listen, there's space for you here.
🌍 Why Global Majority mothers?
Our experiences of motherhood can be shaped by culture, race, migration, family expectations, class, identity and the communities we come from.
Sometimes, our stories are misunderstood, minimised or left untold. Sometimes, we're so busy caring for everyone else that we forget to make space for our own voices.
Mother Tongue creates a space where our experiences can be recognised, celebrated and explored without needing to explain or edit who we are.
Whether you're navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood, questioning who you are now, carrying family stories, finding your voice again or simply looking for somewhere to connect, you belong here.
💛 This space is for you if...
You're a Global Majority mother and:
You want some time for yourself without having to arrange separate childcare.
You enjoy writing or want to explore it for the first time.
You feel like you've lost part of yourself since becoming a mother.
You want to explore your identity, culture and experiences.
You have stories you've never had the opportunity to tell.
You want to meet other mothers and build meaningful connections.
You need a break from the everyday demands of motherhood.
You simply want somewhere to exhale, express yourself and feel understood.
You can come with a full notebook, a head full of thoughts or absolutely nothing prepared.
There's no pressure to perform, produce or share. This is about giving yourself permission to take up space.
🧸 A little space for them. A little space for you.
We know that being a mum doesn't come with an off switch!
That's why Mother Tongue takes place at The Happy Hub soft play, where your little ones can enjoy time playing while you participate in the group.
A dedicated person will supervise the children's play area, helping create an environment where mums can engage in the session with greater peace of mind.
Our aim is to make it easier for mothers to access creative activities, connection and time for themselves without childcare becoming another barrier.
Please check the session details for the children's age range and childcare arrangements.
