Wheelchair Athletes
Applications from wheelchair athletes will be considered on an individual basis and subject to risk assessment by the Race Director. Applicants must declare the use of a wheelchair on their medical declaration at the point of entry.
The risk assessment will consider factors including, but not limited to, wheelchair type, speed, braking capability, and safe integration with runners on the course. Certain wheelchair types may require adjustments to the starting position and may require a lead or trail bike to ensure participant safety.
The course includes a mixture of closed roads, open road crossings, narrow paths, and narrow bridges, which may affect the suitability of some wheelchair types.
For the Half Marathon, wheelchair participants must be able to complete the course within the 4-hour cut-off time. Due to the narrow bridge section on the route, all wheelchair athletes entering the Half Marathon must confirm in advance that they have tested this section of the course and are satisfied it can be safely navigated using their wheelchair.
To ensure the event can be delivered safely and within the required road closure timeframes, intermediate cut-off points may be applied. If a wheelchair participant has not reached a designated checkpoint within the specified timeframe, they may be required to divert onto the 10K course in order to complete the event within the overall 4-hour event window. Participants affected by this measure will still be permitted to finish the event via the amended route.
Final approval for wheelchair participation rests with the Race Director following completion of the event risk assessment. The Race Director reserves the right to withdraw approval, apply additional safety controls, or amend participation arrangements if conditions or safety considerations require it.
Buggies
Applications to run with a buggy will be considered on an individual risk-assessed basis (please declare use of a Buggy on the medical needs form). If you are pushing a buggy with a passenger, the passenger must meet the minimum age requirement for the race distance (15 years for the 10K and 17 years for the Half Marathon, in line with UK Athletics / England Athletics rules for each race distance).
The Race Director reserves the right to impose additional safety controls or withdraw permission if conditions on the day present a safety risk to participants or spectators.
