About This Event

The Carducci Quartet and Julian Bliss present an evening of chamber music at Cheltenham Town Hall on 27 January 2027. Mendelssohn's String Quartet in D major and Brahms's Clarinet Quintet are paired with David Bruce's Gumboots. The performance offers a rich exploration of string and clarinet textures in a historic civic setting.

Wednesday 27 January 2027 Carducci String Quartet and Julian Bliss, clarinet Mendelssohn String Quartet in D major Op. 44 No. 1 (30’) David Bruce “Gumboots” (25’) Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor Op. 115 (38’) A welcome return visit by the splendid Cheltenham-based Carducci Quartet, on this occasion in the company of one of the world’s finest clarinettists, Julian Bliss. In addition to a Mendelssohn quartet and the exquisite clarinet quintet by Brahms, the musicians have agreed to give another Pump Room airing to David’ Bruce’s “Gumboots”, a work inspired by the Gumboot Dancing of black South African miners under apartheid, which they performed during the 2019 Music Festival. Please note, a £3 ticket commission fee is included in the price of the ticket.
