EXHIBITION INFO

There are moments that seem ordinary at first: sunlight catching the surface of water, light filtering through trees, the stillness after rain, the changing colour of the sky. Yet these quiet encounters often become the moments we carry with us. They remind us where we are, who we are, and what matters.

The Quiet Between explores the moments that reconnect us to ourselves, seem most personal, yet quietly connect us to one another. Through a series of expressive works inspired by light, weather and the natural world, Christina Sadler moves between abstraction and landscape. A suggestion of cloud, a hint of coastline: each painting explores the spaces between memory, place and feeling.

Although these moments are often experienced alone, they are rarely ours alone. A sky at dusk, rain on water, standing at the edge of the sea, these are deeply personal encounters, yet they are also experiences many of us recognise. They become shared moments of stillness, connecting us through something universal.

The works vary in scale, from small, intimate “Mini Moments” to larger canvases and expansive abstracts, each holding its own moment of pause: light breaking through cloud, a breath at the water's edge, the hush before a storm. For Christina, painting is itself a way of finding that same stillness. The exhibition invites us to do the same: to slow down, to notice, and to recognise the quiet moments that restore us.

That sense of connection extends beyond the canvas. For her first solo exhibition, Christina has invited a small number of artists working in photography, ceramics, textiles and illustration to each contribute a single piece, a quiet nod to the people who have shaped her creative journey, from university to more recent collaborations. Their work sits alongside her paintings as a reminder that although making art can be a solitary act, creativity itself grows through connection: through shared experience, encouragement and community.

We are, it turns out, rarely as alone in the quiet as we think.
