A ramble around Delamere Forest, a shady oasis in the midst of the agricultural landscape of the Cheshire Plain

Route description

We’re heading to Delamere Forest, a shady oasis in the midst of the agricultural landscape of the Cheshire Plain. The forest provides many gentle paths and trails ideal for accessible and inclusive walking. There are dry sandstone paths, lots of mature trees to shade or shelter under and Blakemere Moss is an ideal lake for bird watchers. In addition, Old Pale provides a superb walk with spectacular views extending as far as Liverpool’s famous skyline of cathedrals and harbour buildings. Our proposed 13km route starts and finishes at The Carriers Inn on Hatchmere Lake and is mostly flat.

Parking: Complimentary customer parking in the pub car park (limited places)

Public transport: Those wishing to arrive by public transport can take the 08:59 train from Liverpool Central (changing at Chester) to arrive at Delamere 10:12 or the 09:10 train from Manchester Piccadilly arriving at 10:21. (20 mins walk from the meeting location but we'll organise lifts across the group).
