An evening discussion titled 'If ignorance is bliss - does it matter?' will take place on 2 November 2026 at Storyhouse in Chester. The event will explore philosophical questions about happiness and awareness in life. Registration is required due to limited space.
If you could live life content and happy, with everything you needed but, (perhaps as people used to be) unaware of the state of the world and how other people lived would you? Would that be OK? Like in the film the Matrix, if you had the chance to live a wonderful life and carry on doing so, would you choose to do that even if you knew it wasn't real and that you were living a happy lie? If offered the choice would you a pill that kept you in a happy and blissfull state of ignorance or instead, one that revealed the absolute truth of reality? Come and enjoy an evening of stimulating discussion on a topic that matters. These opportunities to discuss often contentious matters are open to everyone but please register to attend as space is limited - if you can register on MeetUp that would really help us manage things thank you [https://www.meetup.com/chesterhumanists/](https://www.meetup.com/chesterhumanists/) This informal and friendly group meets in the meeting room on the first floor (within the library area) to discuss life and living - thoughts, ideas and issues that matter to all of us. This open discussion provides a safe space to explore often contentious issues and benefit from other's experiences and different thoughts. The discussions allow free, respectful, expression of views and offers genuine consideration of different points of view. Space is limited so please make sure you RSVP. Please also bring your ideas for future discussions! - We'll often decide on contenders for our next discussion topic at the meeting. Sometimes we'll poll opinions on the next topic via the CHUM Discussions WhatsApp community group. The event is free to attend though a donation may be requested (suggested donation £5).
