Wednesday Bobbin Lace Workshops will occur at The Textile Collective in Colchester on 16 September 2026. Attendees pay £14.00 to learn bobbin lace making as part of the Lace Art Social.
Wednesday Bobbin Lace Workshops
Join Lace Art Social at The Textile Collective to learn bobbin lace making. These twice monthly workshops are perfect for those who are new to the craft or those wanting to take up bobbin lace making again after a hiatus . Or maybe you want some in-person learning after working independently. You will be guided through essential techniques and taught different stitches through this hands-on session. All equipment and materials will be provided for you to use. However, you can bring along your own pillow, pins and bobbins if you want to continue working between workshops. You will also be introduced to some historical and contemporary lace examples to inspire you.
This workshop can be tailored to you and your particular interests and ambitions. I can support you in learning something specific, or get you started on a certain pattern, I can also provide you with prompts and different ways of working to encourage you to be creative and devise your own lace art pieces. We can explore scale, improvisation and different materials or learn some more technical processes if you prefer. Please bring along any ideas or samples and feel free to message any questions or requests in advance if you have an idea you want to explore. It is also totally fine to simply turn up and continue to progress through different techniques and stitches.
You can treat this workshop as mindful break, artistic inspiration or technical discovery - it is up to you! My aim is to get you confidently making and excited about possibilities of lacemaking.
Total beginners are welcome but please message me when you have booked your ticket so I can prepare fully.
You will find The Textile Collective on Priory Walk opposite the Sainsbury's in the city centre. The workshop will either take place upstairs in the sewing room or downstairs at the front table in the Eco Habedashery depending on accessibility needs.
