Colchester History Festival 2027

Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June 2027 at Lower Castle Park, St Peter’s Street entrance (Ryegate), Colchester, Essex, CO1 1HL.

Meet Roman soldiers, Vikings, medieval knights and historical re-enactors in Britain’s first Roman city. Explore living-history encampments, demonstrations and displays, with food and drink traders and family entertainment. The full 2027 programme and participating groups will be announced.

Admission

Adults aged 16+: £12 plus Eventbrite fees per selected day.

Under-16 children enter FREE only with a paying adult aged 18 or over. Book adult and child tickets together in the same order. Child tickets are not valid for standalone entry.

Disabled attendees aged 16+: £12 plus Eventbrite fees. One accompanying carer enters FREE where assistance is required. Book the paid disabled attendee and free carer tickets together and arrive together. Carer tickets are not valid for standalone entry; one free carer per paying disabled attendee. Eligibility and accompaniment are checked at admission.

Parking and access

Free visitor parking at Kings Meadow, end of Catchpool Road, Colchester, CO1 1XN. Walk along Pavilion View and cross the Lower Castle Park footbridge; allow approximately five minutes. Follow event signs and steward directions. Disabled parking is available at Leisure World Sports Centre.

Frequently asked questions

When can I visit? Select your chosen festival day. Opening times are provisionally 11am–6pm; final 2027 times must be confirmed before publication.

Are dogs welcome? Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a lead; please clean up after them.

Is the medieval feast included? No. A feast is planned; date, time, menu, price and separate booking arrangements will be announced.

Is VIP included? No. A VIP group experience for groups of six or more is planned; prices and availability are to be confirmed.

Can I bring alcohol? Outside alcohol is not permitted. Bag checks may take place; follow entry instructions.

Dietary or access needs? Ask individual traders about ingredients and allergens. Contact the organiser before your visit to discuss access and accessible parking.
