The Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy is a tool designed to drive nature recovery action and bring about benefits for nature and the wider environment. The improvement, enhancement, and creation of habitats can deliver multiple benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to:

carbon capture

absorption of water to reduce flooding

protection soil of quality and agricultural production

provision of spaces for nature and wildlife

With the aim of improving our treescape and woodland habitats we have set up two tree nurseries in Colchester in order to grow and propagate local tree seeds. This will help us establishing new woodlands and restock our own sites with native trees without heavily relying on commercial nurseries, reducing our carbon footprint and increasing tree resilience.

At the heart of this initiative is the involvement of the community, where we promote the development of green skills, mental and physical wellbeing as well as fostering an intimate connection with nature and the local environment.
