Once again Greene & Shine and Vickers Vimy join musical forces for a night of original songs and well chosen classic covers.Cork meets Mayo! Cork's GREENE & SHINE and Mayo's VICKERS VIMY join musical forces at The Hibernian Hotel. Since meeting in Matt Molloy's pub in Westport a few years ago, Mary Greene & Noel Shine and the members of Vickers Vimy have been firm friends, periodically taking that friendship on the road to perform double bills around the country. "There's something about our music that really gels and it helps that we all like one another so much!" says Mary. Greene & Shine are two thirds of RTE Folk Awards nominated trio Greenshine whose song 'The Girl in the Lavender Dress' written by Mary, celebrates its 10th anniversary with a beautiful new video. It was this song that brought the act to serious prominence in the Irish Folk scene when it went on to be the second most played track of the year on RTE Radio 1. Since then, their songs have frequently reached the no. 1 spot on the station's Airplay Chart and they continue to enjoy a very strong radio presence both here and overseas. As well as writing, recording and performing their own music, Mary and Noel are well-known studio session singers and players and their talents have enhanced the recordings of acts such as Christy Moore, The Republic of Loose, John Spillane and Frances Black to name but a few and Mary and Noel were honoured to be invited to join Mary Black on her recent Farewell Tour. Mary has been describes as "a songwriter like no other" by RTE's Sheelagh Dempsey.Vickers Vimy consists of Ed Drea on vocals and guitar, Fintan Hanley adds guitar and mandolin, and Eamonn Mulderrig brings keyboards and percussion to the mix. As with Greene and Shine, harmonies feature strongly in their set. The trio have collaborated with Colm Mac An Iomaire of The Frames and Nick Seymour of Crowded House and their album was described as " A feast for the ears...simplified and beautiful," by Hot Press. They have enjoyed impressive airplay especially with their singles 'Where the Wild Birds Sleep', written after Notre Dame in Paris suffered a devastating fire, and their latest single 'Breaking a Fever', which signalled a strong return to national airwaves. Vickers Vimy have released two albums and several singles which have received national airplay. “Gloriously timeless” Hotpress. “No moment lacks in brilliance” Golden Plec. A common thread running through Vickers Vimys' songs is a sense of wonder and adventure. Fittingly, the band is named after the plane used by John Alcock and Arthur Brown to complete the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic in 1919. Expect that same sense of wonder and adventure when Greene & Shine and Vickers Vimy join forces.
