Páraic Kerrigan will host an evening at Waterstones in Cork to launch his new book. The event features various guests and aims to engage attendees in discussions related to the book's themes. Admission to the event is free.
Join author, academic and The Traitors Ireland contestant Páraic Kerrigan as he comes to the rebel county for the Cork launch of his book.
What do Daniel O’Donnell, iodine tablets, the ploughing, a martial-arts film made in Meath and the Housewife of the Year competition tell us about Ireland?A lot more than we like to admit.
Waterstones is delighted to welcome Páraic Kerrigan and a panel of special guests for the launch of Pop Culchie: The Irish Popular Culture That Made Us, a brilliantly funny, affectionate and rigorously researched tour through the major moments, forgotten oddities, moral panics, pop acts and peculiarly Irish scandals that have shaped the country over the last half-century. Páraic and guests will of course be bringing a Cork foccus to Irish popular culture.
AND just as Pop Culchie prepares to deep-dive into the Irish popular culture that made us, its author has become part of it. Páraic is currently appearing in the second series of RTÉ’s The Traitors Ireland, filmed at Slane Castle.Páraic will be joined by special guests for a lively conversation about the culture Ireland remembers, the culture it has half-forgotten, why “low” culture deserves serious attention and what happens when the academic studying popular culture suddenly finds himself inside one of the country’s biggest television programmes.
The conversation will be followed by audience questions and a book signing.Expect a lot of nostalgia and a good few laughs!
