A nationally recognised powerboat qualification in one weekend.

The RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 course covers the essentials of powerboating over two days, including the use and handling of both tiller and console (steering wheel) RIBs. It’s suitable for complete beginners and for anyone needing to gain the qualification — and there’s no exam: you’re assessed continuously by the instructor as you learn.

Over the two days you’ll cover launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard recovery, coastal aspects (tides and buoyage) and planing manoeuvres.

Your RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is also the basis for the International Certificate of Competency (ICC) — the licence you’ll need to charter or drive a powerboat abroad. Once you’ve completed the course you can apply through the RYA (fees may apply); we’ll point you in the right direction.

The details

Who: Ages 12+, no experience needed. Under-16s must have a parent or guardian also booked on the course.

When - two-day courses running from 09:30 - 16:00 each day:

weekend: Saturday 25th – Sunday 26th July 2026

midweek: Thursday 30th – Friday 31st July 2026

weekend: Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th August 2026

Cost: £330

We provide: the RYA Start Powerboating book, buoyancy aid, and your certificate on completion.

You bring: suitable footwear such as wellies, full waterproofs and weather-appropriate clothing (hats/gloves), a towel, lunch, a £1 coin for the lockers (returnable) — and a passport-sized photo, without which your certificate cannot be issued.

Please arrive five minutes before the start at the Waterside Reception, at the front of the Clubhouse. Changing rooms, showers and lockers are on site, with free parking for course students (just register your number plate on the tablet in reception each day).
