A consultation event regarding the Whitley Berm Project is scheduled for 26 August 2026 at Whitley Abbey Bridge in Coventry. Attendees can join the Sherbourne Valley Project team to discuss upcoming works planned in the Sherbourne through Whitley area.
Come and join us to discuss the upcoming works we have planned in the Sherbourne through Whitley.
Join the Sherbourne Valley Project team for a community consultation to find out more about the next phase of river restoration planned for the Sherbourne. We'll present the proposed works, explain how they will benefit both wildlife and people, and provide an opportunity to ask questions and share your views before work begins.
Our latest initiative is to install a sequence of brash berms along both banks of the river. These D-shaped structures are made up of bundles of branches, roped down and tethered to posts. Berms narrow the river channel and create in-channel meanders and speed up the flow of water as well as providing valuable habitat.
Whether you're a regular visitor, local resident or simply interested in the future of the river, we'd love to hear your thoughts and see you on the day!
We will have a stall located near the Whitley Abbey Bridge going over the River Sherbourne, which will serve as a meeting hub for people joining us to participate.
This event is organised and lead by Joe Atkinson, River Restoration Officer.
Note:
This project is lead by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust in partnership with Coventry City Council, Severn Trent, the Environment Agency, Citizen Housing, Historic Coventry Trust, Coventry University and Sherbourne Valley Churches. It as has been generously supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and it’s thanks to National Lottery players that we are able to host this event.
