Looking to kickstart your career and gain the skills and confidence to succeed?
The Journey to Work Programme is an exclusive 6-week opportunity designed to help you gain valuable work experience and learning to reach your full potential.
The Journey to Work Programme combines:
· Monday personalised one to one support - to ensure you gain the most from your experience, resolve any concerns and are supported with job search, application and interview prep, to help you move into employment post-programme.
· Tuesday to Thursday 3 days Work Placement - times and responsibilities will vary depending on the placement. It will however provide you on the job training and valuable work experience to move into employment.
Friday Employability Training - gearing you up to make the most of your work experience, every Friday, 10-3pm, for 5 weeks.
This programme is perfect for anyone 16-25 who is eager to work, but has limited work experience or would like to experience a job role prior to application.
There are only a maximum of 11 placements, in this programme. So don’t miss your chance to take part. Secure your spot today and take the first step toward transforming your future!
First employability session will be Friday 11 September and the programme end date is Friday 16 October.
Placements on offer:
We have a range of placements on offer, including:
1. Streetpride Derby City Council – Streetpride Assistant (x4 roles)
You will take part in an array of activity across key areas of Refuse, Streets, building, voids and back office. This is a physically demanding role, walking up to 22,000 steps a day, with early mornings. For this role, applicants must be over 18 years old.
2. DCC Parks and Green Spaces team - x2 roles
Working with Parks team, going around local parks to maintain our Parks, activities such as hedge trimming, mowing, planting etc. providing support and utilising tools as supervised as you gain confidence. Also biodiversity conservation work supporting the local ecosytem to thrive, such as rivers, lakes, habit restoration and protecting species. For this role, applicants must be over 18 years old.
3. Derby Homes - Customer Service Assistant
Gain experience with Derby Homes as a Customer Service Assistant, where you'll shadow staff at the front desk and learn how to support customers. Once trained, you'll also have the chance to answer phones, help with admin tasks, and build valuable confidence and workplace skills for your future.
4.Private Day Nursery - Early years assistant (x2 roles)
Help create a safe, fun, and supportive space for young children.You’ll support children with activities, routines, and play. You'll also learn how staff work with parents and create a stimulating environment for learning.
5. Leonardo Hotels - Guest Service Staff (x3 roles)
Assisting departments with guest experience i.e. housekeeping, breakfast and front office, or bar.
6. Livewell Health – Livewell Assistant (x1 role)
Support local communities to make healthier lifestyle choices. You’ll get involved in group classes such as weight management, smoking cessation, and fitness sessions across Derby. You’ll also shadow Livewell Advisors and help support clients on their health journeys.
7. Derby Adult Learning Service – Business Admin (x1 role)
Support with general admin duties i.e. data input, filing, greeting visitors, enquiries. For this role, applicants must be over 18 years old and will based across the Adult Learning Services.
8. Flo Skatepark – Customer Service Assistant (x2 role)
Assist with front of house, customer service and reception. There is always a footfall so will be working with the public and will need to interact with people and liaise with visitors, Duties could include, customer verifications i.e age, bookings. If you have an interest in the operations of a charity/small business can shadow manager i.e. marketing/social media, finances management. Interest in skateboarding or are skaters or skate culture – whatever level would be advantageous. Learn to be a skate coach
9. Breadsall Priory – Guest Assistant (x2 role)
Assisting departments with guest experience i.e. housekeeping, restaurants, front office, bar, spa area, greenspaces.
